C.V.G. A Terrorist Attack Waiting to Happen

As many of you may know CVG has recently built and opened their new Security Checkpoint in Terminal 3. You now have both ticketing and screening on the same level. So you may be asking yourself what the problem is. Well, I’ll tell you. For some reason (I’m Guessing it was cheaper) they decided to build the Checkpoint directly above a tunnel used by shuttle buses, delivery trucks and everything else. I’m guessing you can see where this is going. The problem is that the Checkpoint and Ticketing are now extremely vulnerable to an attack by the use of a truck loaded with explosives. I and many others including Airline Employee’s brought this concern to Management. The scenario would be very easy to pull off. All someone would have to do is to wait for a busy day, most likely a Monday morning for the most casualties. They would then drive the truck, park it in the tunnel and walk away. The truck could then be detonated via remote or cell phone. This would cause the building to be destroyed and everyone in it killed. I’m not sure what they were thinking when the plans were drawn up but it has the potential to kill a lot of people. There would be no way to stop it and it is what I believe to be a very dangerous situation.

Another trip to NYC this weekend and once again I begin to think of how easy it would be for a nutcase with an anti-American attitude to use the buses and subways of our nation to launch another attack.

Will we become so top heavy with security on air travel that we minimize security on buses, trains, and subways?

It definitely would not take much for another attack.

This is not shocking or surprising since the TSA does not represent anything except security theater.

Clearly, the terrists only attack planes. Hence the thousandfold overreactive emphasis on securing aircraft from infintessimal threats.

    Hey Sean,

I have always wondered, from your experience, how much of the food and beverages delivered to the food vendors on the secure side of the security checkpoint is checked for explosives? Do you know how they check it?

I would say maybe ten percent, that’s just a guess though. From what I understand the food and supplies come from “Trusted” vendors. I know we as screeners have never screened anything like that before. It’s the same way with cargo. The TSA gave up on that a long time ago.
